This is getting ridiculous. Via the ironicly titled blog “Game Hacks”, the Houston Chronicle took aim at , calling it racist. Now ’s writer Chet Faliszek fired back!

“Utter insanity. “There are mixed races of zombies, there are all different races of zombies that you shoot, and since we placed it in New Orleans, that makes it racist? I honestly re-read the paragraph about five times … but when two of the characters in your game are African-American, it’s a weird thing to be accused of. We’re like, ‘how does this work’?

“… As far as Katrina goes, if you go down to New Orleans, Katrina’s still going on. I mean, it’s messed up, it is crazy that the city is still in the state it’s in, and we treat that with the utmost respect. Our CEDA thing is not some subversive commentary on anything. This is a videogame, those are real people’s lives, we are not trying to make a statement with that … It’s a place we love, it’s dear to our hearts. We would not cheapen it. It’s not a brick-for-brick representation of New Orleans; it’s a fictional version, and I love that city.”

Unreal that this is an issue. Obama should call this guy stupid!

Bulletproof Infected Coming to Left 4 Dead 2

August 4th, 2009

Spitters, chargers, fire-resistant infected, and now this? Bulletproof infected?!! Reallyyyy??? I guess this is to help increase the need for the newly added melee weapons, but fans can expect to encounter bulletproof infected on their way to the safe room. Riot police in full bullet-resistant gear are out there, and these kevlar wearing bastards want you dead. The good news? You can shoot them in the back to take them down, but man, L4D2 is gonna be TOUGH!

Left 4 Dead 2: The Spitter Revealed

August 2nd, 2009

In showing off the new campaign in , also announced the new Special Infected: The . This creepy looking girl looks pregnant, so freaky! She spits a glob of goo on the ground that burns anyone standing in it for damage, preventing players from stacking up. Can’t wait to see her in action by the elevator during No Mercy level 3. Here’s a pic:

In a funny twist of events, one of the guys leading the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott, came up with some of the ideas around this Special Infected back in May. Of course, someone else thought about it too back in November of 2008. Draw your own conclusions!

Depeche Mode to be featured in Left 4 Dead 2

August 1st, 2009

One of the new Survivors in , Rochelle, is one hip chick. Even when confronted with Infected, she had the common sense to don her pink Depeche Mode t-shirt, before stomping their asses. While its inevitable that someone will strip her of her clothing a la the Nude Zoey mod, don’t worry about the band filing suit. According to Kotaku, the cameo is intentional and authorized! Even more so, audio recordings are open game as well. Does that mean we’ll hear the band playing on a TV somewhere? Fight them in a back alley? Could one of the band members be the final to-be-revealed Boss Infected?

Left 4 Dead 2 Preview: Swamp Fever

July 22nd, 2009

GameSpy recently got a tour of duty of the new 2 campaign: . New infected such as the , a creature that spits on survivors like a mortar to help break up stacking survivors, and “common-uncommons” that are level specific monsters like the Hazmat zombies on the Parish levels, which in this case are “mud men” which are crawling, faster zombies in the swamp boards. Also revealed are new items, which sound to be an ammo pack which can fill the medkit slot (why you’d ever do this is beyond me) and adrenaline pills which let you melee faster and more often. You also can run past zombies when juiced up.

The game sounds so wicked, and I can’t wait to play more on Comic Con this week.
