Left 4 Dead Map Recreates Zombie Film Fest Theater For Zombie Film Fest [Mods]

October 9th, 2009

Skilled modder "ZapWizard" is going above and beyond for a project tied to the "Dismember the Alamo" zombie film festival ambling to Alamo Draft House later this month. He's recreated the theater in great detail in Left 4 Dead.

What's more, Mr. Wizard is aiming to have the Alamo Draft House-gone-horribly-wrong playable at said film fest, complete with arcade-style cabinets. The recreation of the famed cinema chain is impressive, with recreations of each theater room in various states of destruction, custom-made posters and stills from zombie flicks projected on each theater's silver screen.

Take a minute to eyeball the work in progress Left 4 Dead map at the forum conversation below, take note of the detail and hope for its swift availability for download following the film fest.

‘Left 4 Dead 2′ Pre-Order Bonus Swings For the Fences

October 2nd, 2009

Valve is giving folks some extra love, so long as those folks are willing to plunk down some pre-order cash on Steam for "Left 4 Dead 2." Pre-ordering the game will net you early access to the "Left 4 Dead 2" demo (scheduled to release on October 27th) and 10% off the total price. But that's not all!

As an extra special bonus, an exclusive in-game weapon will be given to pre-orderers: a baseball bat. Valve is careful to specify "American baseball bat," which is odd since I didn't know that baseball bats varied all that much throughout the world, but hey, maybe in Tibet they use like a triangle? The bat is one of 10 new melee weapons introduced in the game.

Cool bonus, but I wonder how it'll be introduced into the game. Will it only pop up in games hosted by pre-orderers, and can non-pre-orderers (yes, it's a word. look it up.) pick it up in one such game? Either way, if you're planning on picking up "Left 4 Dead 2" on the PC, there's really no excuse to not take advantage of the deal. Unless you're planning on pirating it, of course. If so, Valve would very much like to know where you live.

LEFT 4 DEAD CRASH COURSE AVAILABLE SEPT 29

September 23rd, 2009
September 23, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced that Crash Course -- the second downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D) -- will be made available worldwide on September 29 on Xbox 360 and PC.

Crash Course delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms, and bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of Crash Course is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

September 18th, 2009
Ever watched those annoying kids programs where everyone sings, dances and are just always in a good mood? Ever wanted to just take a gun and make bolognese of their brains, making the kids cry when their favourite TV character is on the floor with his guts pooring out his sides? If you are this sick and twisted, you will love what we have in store for you today. If you're just like the regular gamer who wants to make his/her Left 4 Dead a little silly and fun, you might enjoy this as well. Now everyone can enjoy the Left 4 Dead experience using the Novint Falcon which allows players to feel realistic weapon recoil, enemy attacks, and interactions with the environment, including a variety of specialized forces. With the Novint Pistol Grip accessory the First Person Shooter gaming experience gets even more immersive.

“As both the reviews and the sales figures show, Valve’s Left 4 Dead has been an absolute hit, and it is one of our strongest Falcon supported titles to date,” said Novint CEO Tom Anderson. “The Falcon makes the experience of being attacked by Zombies ultra-realistic, and it has been our most popular title with our early testers. We’re very excited to add Left 4 Dead to our ever-expanding list of Falcon-compatible titles.”

Valve Interview Sheds More Light on Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course

There’s a great interview with Valve writer, Chet Faliszek, at Offworld about Left 4 Dead and Valve culture in general. Very interesting conversation about the larger Left 4 Dead world, which has some surprises in store for us.

Interestingly, Faliszek mentions that the recently announced L4D1 DLC, Crash Course, was supposed to be released before E3 and the Left 4 Dead 2 announcement.

“I think in this case we just didn’t message correctly,” said Faliszek to Offworld. “We didn’t make it clear that Left 4 Dead was still going to be updated. We just didn’t think to mention it, we were focusing on other stuff.” “We, internally, always knew we were going to do cool new stuff, so we didn’t say anything about the original game,” he added. “Of course we also intended to get the Crash Course DLC for L4D out before E3, but some things held us up.” “I think if we had that out before the Left 4 Dead 2 announcement, then it would have been clearer for our intentions. Losing the opportunity to get that right hurt us, but I think we made the right choices otherwise.”

While I really enjoy what Valve is doing here, I’m not entirely convinced this is true. It all seems like damage control. From the outside looking in, Crash Course seems to be a short Left 4 Dead experience, one easily concocted between E3 and its September release. I’m hoping I’m wrong!

Left 4 Dead 2 ‘Dark Carnival’ Campaign and Crash Course DLC Video

August 17th, 2009

UPDATE: The campaign is actually titled “Dark Carnival” it seems. Left the rest of the post as is:

GameTrailers revealed some video about Left 4 Dead 2′s “Fairgrounds” campaign and the pending DLC for Left 4 Dead, Crash Course. In Left 4 Dead 2, there’s a cool amusement park scene, and an eerie carousel, but I’m hopeful for a working rollercoaster. ;) Crash Course opens with a helicopter crash, as it bridges the gap between No Mercy and Death Toll, and yes, confirms there are only two maps. Boo hoo, but still fun!
